📜 LIFE OF ADAM AND EVE
📖 CHAPTER 1
This is the story of Adam and Eve after they had gone out of paradise.
Adam said unto Eve:
“What shall we do, that we may not perish?”
“For we have transgressed the commandment of God.”
📖 CHAPTER 2
And Adam said:
“Let us do penance for forty days.”
And Eve said:
“I will do penance for thirty-four days.”
And they began their fasting.
📖 CHAPTER 3
And Adam stood in the river Jordan, and the water came up to his neck.
And he prayed unto the Lord continually.
📖 CHAPTER 4
And Eve stood in the river Tigris.
And she prayed likewise.
📖 CHAPTER 5
And Satan appeared unto Eve in the likeness of an angel.
And he said:
“God hath heard thy prayer.”
📖 CHAPTER 6
And Eve believed him, and came out of the water.
And she went unto Adam.
📖 CHAPTER 7
And Adam said:
“Why hast thou done this?”
“Thou hast again been deceived.”
📖 CHAPTER 8
And Adam wept, and said:
“O Lord, how long shall we be tried?”
📖 CHAPTER 9
And Satan appeared again.
And Adam rebuked him.
📖 CHAPTER 10
And Satan said:
“I will not cease to tempt thee.”
📖 CHAPTER 11
And Adam said:
“The Lord rebuke thee.”
📖 CHAPTER 12
And Satan fled.
📖 CHAPTER 13
And Adam and Eve continued in fasting.
📖 CHAPTER 14
And they prayed day and night.
📖 CHAPTER 15
And they wept over their sin.
📖 CHAPTER 16
And the Lord sent His angel to comfort them.
📖 CHAPTER 17
And the angel said:
“Be patient, for the Lord will have mercy.”
📖 CHAPTER 18
And they were strengthened.
📖 CHAPTER 19
And they continued their repentance.
📖 CHAPTER 20
And they trusted in the promise of God.
📖 CHAPTER 21
And after these things Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bare a son.
And they called his name Cain.
And again she bare a son, and they called his name Abel.
📖 CHAPTER 22
And Adam taught his sons to offer sacrifice unto the Lord.
And Abel offered of the firstlings of his flock.
And Cain offered of the fruits of the earth.
📖 CHAPTER 23
And the Lord accepted the offering of Abel, but not that of Cain.
And Cain was angry and slew his brother.
And Adam and Eve mourned greatly.
📖 CHAPTER 24
And Adam said:
“Now I have lost my son through sin.”
And he wept bitterly.
📖 CHAPTER 25
And again Adam knew Eve, and she bare Seth.
And Adam rejoiced, saying:
“God hath given me another seed.”
📖 CHAPTER 26
And the children grew, and Adam taught them righteousness.
And he instructed them in the fear of the Lord.
📖 CHAPTER 27
And after many years Adam became sick.
And he knew that his end was near.
📖 CHAPTER 28
And he called Seth and Eve and said:
“Behold, I am dying.”
“And I will tell you what shall come.”
📖 CHAPTER 29
And Adam said:
“When I was in paradise, I saw great glory.”
“And I heard the voice of God.”
“But now I am cast out, and my strength faileth.”
📖 CHAPTER 30
And he told them of the fall.
And of the serpent.
And of the commandment that was broken.
📖 CHAPTER 31
And Adam said:
“Take heed, lest ye fall as we did.”
📖 CHAPTER 32
And Seth said:
“What shall we do for thee, father?”
📖 CHAPTER 33
And Adam said:
“Go to the gate of paradise, and pray for mercy.”
📖 CHAPTER 34
And Seth and Eve went toward paradise.
And they wept and prayed.
📖 CHAPTER 35
And they saw an angel with a flaming sword.
And they trembled.
📖 CHAPTER 36
And they prayed unto the Lord.
And asked for oil of mercy.
📖 CHAPTER 37
And the angel said:
“Ye cannot receive it now.”
📖 CHAPTER 38
“But in the end, mercy shall be given.”
📖 CHAPTER 39
And they returned unto Adam.
📖 CHAPTER 40
And they told him all that had happened.
📖 CHAPTER 41
And Adam said unto them:
“Behold, I am about to depart from this world.”
“And my soul shall be taken from me.”
And he lay upon his bed.
📖 CHAPTER 42
And Eve wept, saying:
“O my lord, do not leave us.”
And Adam comforted her.
📖 CHAPTER 43
And he stretched out his hands and prayed unto the Lord.
And he said:
“Receive my spirit.”
📖 CHAPTER 44
And angels came, and they stood by Adam.
And they took his soul.
📖 CHAPTER 45
And the heavens opened, and there was great glory.
And the angels bore his soul upward.
📖 CHAPTER 46
And Eve saw this and fell upon the ground.
And she wept greatly.
📖 CHAPTER 47
And she said:
“O Lord, why hast Thou taken him from me?”
📖 CHAPTER 48
And the Lord sent comfort unto her.
📖 CHAPTER 49
And Eve also became sick.
And she knew that her time was near.
📖 CHAPTER 50
And she called her children and instructed them.
📖 CHAPTER 51
And she said:
“Keep the commandments of the Lord.”
“And do not fall into sin.”
📖 CHAPTER 52
And she spoke of the fall.
And of the serpent.
And warned them.
📖 CHAPTER 53
And she prayed unto the Lord.
📖 CHAPTER 54
And angels came again.
📖 CHAPTER 55
And her soul was taken.
📖 CHAPTER 56
And they buried Adam and Eve.
📖 CHAPTER 57
And the angels ministered over them.
📖 CHAPTER 58
And the Lord promised resurrection.
📖 CHAPTER 59
And that all shall be judged.
📖 CHAPTER 60
And thus ends the life of Adam and Eve.
